Clay building

During this full-day event, participants will learn all about the possibilities of traditional earth building and discover the fascinating theoretical foundations of this craft. You will learn more about the history and significance of earth building in our region and be taught the theoretical principles of earth building. You will learn about the technical aspects and principles behind earth building. There will be practical exercises: You will become active yourself and build earthen walls and structures under the guidance of experienced craftsmen. You will discover the ecological benefits and the importance of earth building for the environment.

An important focus is on vocational training. We would like to promote training and further education measures for building with earth and cooperation with organisations, institutions, companies, associations and networks in the field of earth building. The aims include training in earth building techniques, materials science and environmental knowledge. Plenty of clay plaster, for example, protects the straw from pests and gradually conceals the regionally grown wall building material. The advantages of the building material are: Clay is breathable, absorbs moisture from the air and releases it again. It therefore ensures a good indoor climate and can be processed and recycled. Due to the good building biology properties of earth and the development of efficient process technologies and new material compositions, earth building is becoming increasingly important in terms of sustainability. The production, processing and disposal of earth building components is environmentally and health-friendly.
