It’s not just nature that awakens to new life with the arrival of spring, there’s also a lot going on in Kirchberg: the open-air theatre on the edge of the town was spruced up with a combined effort in the week from 7 to 11 April 2025. Citizens, companies from the region and dedicated helpers took the opportunity to bring one of Kirchberg’s cultural centrepieces out of hibernation.

The hustle and bustle began early on Monday morning: Leaves were removed, rows of seats were cleaned, minor repair work was carried out and the first rehearsals for the coming season were started. The ‘Spring Awakening’ project was not only initiated by the city’s cultural department, but was also very well received by the residents of Kirchberg. Many came to the stage after work or in their free time, bringing tools, good humour and, not infrequently, homemade cakes.

The week culminated on Friday 11 April. The final work was done together: the technology was tested, the lighting adjusted and the stage decorated. Everything ready for the coming season! Representatives of the city didn’t miss out on this moment and thanked everyone involved for their hard work, the community spirit and their great commitment.

The visit of a team from the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) was of particular interest this year. The reporters accompanied the project throughout the week, conducted interviews with the helpers and captured many emotional moments. The programme is expected to be broadcast on the regional channel at the end of April and will give a vivid impression of the cohesion and cultural energy in Kirchberg.

The spring awakening at the open-air theatre has shown: Everyone counts in Kirchberg, and great things can be achieved together. The open-air theatre is starting the new season with a fresh glow, a good atmosphere and an extensive programme. The first events have already been planned – and anyone who has been there this week will sit down in the audience with a particularly proud feeling.
