EXHIBITION BRUCH|STÜCKE | Zwickau
The exhibition “BRUCH|STÜCKE – The November Pogroms in Saxony 1938” has been part of the culture of remembrance in Saxony since 2018. Under scientific direction and in cooperation with the Jewish communities of Saxony. So far, more than sixty-five smaller and larger locations in Saxony have been documented where anti-Jewish rallies, arrests, the destruction of homes and businesses, acts of violence, displays of Jews and the destruction of synagogues and community facilities took place. The exhibition examines the protagonists – those affected, the perpetrators, the onlookers – and their scope for action, the symbolic power and consequences of the events, the culture of remembrance and its transformation processes as well as the stories that are associated with 9/10 November 1938 in Saxony and passed on.
In 2019, the “Zwickauer Geschichtswerkstatt” of the Alter Gasometer e.V. created an exhibition under the name “Stadt Ohne…” as part of the Saxon Youth Foundation and presented it in the Saxon State Parliament. The collection of compiled texts is now part of this exhibition and expands the documentation to include the city of Zwickau. The basis and research of the Zwickau History Workshop were the collections of Norbert Peschke (local historian from Zwickau) and the materials in the Zwickau town archives.
The three Zwickau plaques in the exhibition, including the plaque of the Jewish sportsman Bernardo Grosser from Zwickau, can be borrowed. Please contact Jörg Banitz.
