Queer Space – The queer meeting in Zwickau

QueerSpace is a meeting place for LGBTQIA+ teenagers and young adults in Zwickau. We want to create a “safer space” for queer people where they can exchange ideas and network without fear of discrimination and prejudice.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the organisation and planning of joint meetings and activities.

WHAT IS POSSIBLE: playing, chatting, chilling, cooking, drawing evenings, queer quizzes, talks, excursions, music programmes, advice and other queer events.

We discuss topics that concern us and many others, including

  • Information on the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities
  • Relationships, family, desire to have children, parenthood, parenting issues
  • Coming out (support), crisis intervention, experiences of discrimination and/or violence, loneliness, searching for a connection
  • Medical diagnoses and measures
  • (Supported by the mobile counselling service “Que(e)r durch Sachsen”)
  • Raising awareness of one’s own gender images and gender perceptions
  • Reflecting on your own everyday theories
  • Change of perspective in dealing with identities, genders and sexuality
  • Strengthening one’s own identity
  • Addressing societal and social inequalities
  • Contact with accepting therapists, lawyers and doctors
  • Name and civil status changes
  • Support with personal, legal and medical processes
  • Cooperation and referral to specific institutions, e.g. anti-discrimination centre
  • Reflection on gender and sexual self-image in society
  • Films and series with a queer reference
  • Counter-discourse and educational intervention options

Our open programme is professionally supported by youth workers and social workers.
