Zwickauer Geschichtswerkstatt – Zwickau History Workshop
The Zwickau History Workshop was founded in spring 2018. Together with young people from Zwickau, we want to research, analyse, document and present Zwickau’s city history, always from the perspective of young people.
We began in 2018 with the reappraisal and documentation of the NSU complex and its significance for Zwickau as the place where the self-disclosure took place.
In 2019, the “City without…” project focussed on the fate of Zwickau’s Jewish fellow citizens from 1936 onwards. Extensive material was compiled in a documentation and exhibition as an educational project.
The history workshop will also be continued in 2021. To round off the “30 Years of Peaceful Revolution – 30 Years of German Unity” celebrations, we will be looking at the history of the SED regime and its power structures. In particular, we would like to shed light on the sites of the former state security in Zwickau. The kick-off trip will take us to our project partner in Berlin, to the Hohenschönhausen Memorial, the former Stasi prison. The participants will embark on a “virtual” journey to Berlin in the 1980s. The results will be on display as part of the November Days and the Youth History Days organised by the Saxon Youth Foundation in Dresden.
But this is only part of the journey: the Zwickau History Workshop will enter all its results into the city’s digital memory. In addition to the physical documentation, all contributions and work results will also be made available to the public in digital form as part of a future project from 2021.
The open editorial team meets every Thursday from 3 p.m. in the youth centre of the Altes Gasometer.
