Accessible socioculture means that access and mediation are to be designed in such a way that as many people as possible have the opportunity to participate in our events and programs: not only people with disabilities, but also people from immigrant backgrounds, families with children or seniors. An elevator benefits not only wheelchair users, but also elders with and without walkers or young families who are grateful not to have to carry a stroller. Children benefit from texts in simple language, as do people who have difficulty understanding the German language.
Our aim is to make our services, staffing, buildings and communication inclusive, but also to examine the extent to which processes, established traditions, workflow and routines, or attitudes and ways of thinking take into account and reflect the needs of people with disabilities. Inclusion is thus less a state to be achieved than a guiding principle for the design of our facilities and services in all their facets.
Our goal does not end with the completion of checklists or the installation of a ramp and elevator, but requires a permanent process of reflection and change. We cannot change everything overnight or ensure that all disabilities can be taken into account. But we would like to do more and more step by step.
The Alter Gasometer association is working to remove barriers so that even more people can participate in our events and offerings. Recognizing barriers and removing them where possible is a process. We are accompanied on this path by Servicestelle Inklusion in the cultural department of the Landesverband Soziokultur.
Below, as well as in the above individual tabs of our locations you will find further information.
In order to identify and address further barriers, we need feedback. If you have any questions about the use of services, please contact us. We welcome feedback and suggestions, e.g. by mail or by phone at 0375-2772122 or talk to us directly on site.

We continue to work on the topic of accessibility and reduced barriers and already have many ideas for a more inclusive service in the Alter Gasometer. Therefore, this section of the website is constantly updated and expanded. So it’s worth taking a look every now and then.
The Alter Gasometer as a building, in which the hall and the BarTerre can be found, is connected with the Vereinshaus, in which e.g. the youth club, the office can be found. These two buildings are connected by an elevator, which can be reached at ground level via the foyer of the Alter Gasometer.
Disabled parking
Disabled parking is available in the large municipal parking lot in front of the Alter Gasometer and is labeled accordingly. Two additional disabled parking spaces are available in the kleine Biergasse.
Barrier-free toilet
Barrier-free toilet
The barrier-free toilet is located on the first floor of the clubhouse. It can be reached from the foyer of the Alter Gasometer via the elevator. The light in the bathroom works by motion detector.
Accompanying persons at events
It is possible for severely disabled people with a “B” in their ID card to bring an accompanying person to events. This person does not have to pay admission. However, prior registration via our ticket shop is necessary.
Discounts
Our ticket prices are always subject to the principle of cultural participation and not profit maximization. You can find out whether ticket reductions also exist for an event on the respective event pages.
People with limited mobility
The rooms of the Altes Gasometer are barrier-free for wheelchair users and accessible at ground level.
The hall is accessed via the foyer entrance (glass building). There is an elevator in the back of the hall.
There are also spaces for wheelchair users in the hall. A toilet suitable for the disabled is located in the clubhouse.
At the entrance to the clubhouse, the doorbell is located at a low height. It is therefore also accessible from a wheelchair.
As there is a historic staircase in the entrance area of the Vereinshaus, access is via the foyer (glass building) and there via the elevator, which has exits to the floors of the Vereinshaus.
The elevator provides access to the hall, the youth club, the offices, the consultation room, the ticket store, the backstage, the disabled toilet and the multi-purpose room.
If the foyer should be closed or help is needed, please ring the bell at the entrance to the clubhouse.
People with hearing impairment
We offer special services for people with hearing impairments at some events. For example, there are sign language interpreters or films with subtitles. We provide information about the respective options on the event pages in the programme.
People with visual impairments
For people with visual impairments, we offer special services at some events. For example, there are also films with audio description. We provide information on the respective options on the event pages in the programme.
Emergency situations
In emergency situations, such as a fire alarm, our staff are instructed to show special consideration for people with disabilities and to help them leave the building via the fire escape, for example.
