Summer holidays: Sewing

In this programme, participants discover the world of needle, thread and wonderful fabrics. They will spend three summer holiday days from 15 May to 17 July 2025 in the historic village of Zwickau and immerse themselves in the fascinating world of sewing. Under the motto “Everyone can sew!”, we offer a unique opportunity to learn the basics of tailoring, patchwork techniques and upcycling. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced sewer, this week is for anyone who wants to develop their creativity and improve their sewing skills. From traditional sewing techniques to modern upcycling ideas – there is something for everyone!

Participants will work and practise their sewing skills over 3 days, 7 hours a day, from Tuesday to Thursday: 10am – 5pm. In your workshop, we welcome the participants and clarify the general conditions for the upcoming workshop. After a basic safety briefing, the children and young people start their sewing project. We then select the appropriate material together. Towards the end of the workshop, we tidy up the workshop together so that the subsequent courses have a clean workplace.

The aims include gaining confidence in using the sewing machine and accessories, learning about the most commonly used types of fabric, working with patterns and the corresponding instructions, making minor adjustments to a pattern to suit their own body shape (if necessary), practising with the help of test stitches and producing a wonderful project of their own. The children and young people look after themselves and the other participants and they look after them too. This promotes community, teaches mindfulness and helps all participants to realise their project in a safe environment. You will experience how much fun it is to create something creative together in a safe environment.
